Honouring

Birthdays and Christmases are special times for us to express our love for each child as an individual with a personalised gift and their chosen themed cake. Making dreams come true is a reflection of our love, care and passion to ensure each child knows they have great worth, are totally unique, wanted and are initiatives give us a call- we’d love to have you on board too!

Behind the scenes

Keeping our home running, the environment safe and functional, provisions available and the kids cared for takes more than simply employing “moms” to care for the children in our homes. We rely heavily on the work done behind the scenes by our support staff who administer the finances, see to the admin and legal requirements of the organisation, coordinate the home diary, keep on top of the maintenance needs and keep the home clean and hygienic. We are a team that together aims to meet the needs of each and every child we get to care for.

@ home

Children learn best through play, so whether it’s stimulating their imagination through fantasy play and dress up, improving their fine motor skills during play dough time or improving their coordination and balance through dancing and outdoor activities, our focus is to keep learning fun! Our toddlers love their new found independence as they get to feed themselves (albeit a glorious mess!) and run around the house exploring new spaces or popping into my office to say hello. Our caregivers are so talented at braiding hair – this our teens especially enjoy! We are currently home to 24 children aged 3 months up to 15 years making activities very diverse- but one thing for sure is that there is never a dull moment at iKhaya!

Youthfulness

Granny Nellie volunteers her valuable time to invest skills, creativity, love and inspiration in our preschool kids lives and to help Aunty Glory with various crafts and activities in our Early Childhood Program. We had the pleasure of celebrating her birthday together with her and the little kids she has so grown to love. Thank you Nellie for the energy, dedication and outpouring love you show us all. Our kids love you dearly and your passion and talent inspires us all.

Snug as a bug

Winter warmth! The youngsters were all blessed with beautifully made fleece blankets just in time for the cold spell.

Business Against Crime

Business against crime partners generously contributed groceries and cleaning products to iKhaya LikaBaba and Mike Patterson kindly brought them through to us. The staff and children enjoyed a short talk on crime awareness too.

Friends

Great outdoor fun with friends! Thoriso, our intern, and his mates spent quality time with us and blessed us with groceries other goods.

Seat Covers

We recently replaced our vehicles with the help of a number of sponsors. We just had seat fitted to the Combi but the most amazing part of this is that an 8 year old raised the funds to make this happen! Well done Teá!

Dear friends,

Exciting news... We have an intern Social Worker with us for a year. Simthandile is working alongside our own Social Worker to build deeper relations with and get to know the children and their needs better. This will transform our counselling, group therapy and other support we offer our kids. What a blessing this is! Zah, a local volunteer, will invest 8-10 days a month with our babies and preschool groups. Many hands make light work! We appreciate this extra help and enjoy the energy they bring with them! We also have a tutor, Nina Strydom, for our Maths Learner. Nina is brilliant and so should your kids need extra Maths lessons give her a try!

Vacancy: Live-in House Mother

We have a vacancy for a house mother at iKhaya LikaBaba. This is not a normal 8 to 5 job, as being a mother is a 24 hour undertaking. This is a live-in position with housing, meals and a monthly stipend. We are looking for a Christian, who is dynamic, innovative and friendly, with a passion to see young people grow and develop into being all they can be. The successful applicant will be a part of our team and a mother to 5/ 6 children.

Vehicles

We continue to raise funds for the vehicles we replaced. They are used daily for school transport, shopping and errands, medical appointments and more. Your donations will be gratefully received and appreciated.

Freezer

We are really having a terrible time with freezers. We were blessed with a stunning used freezer in May but it had been off and unused for a while and is not working. So we are looking for a new freezer again. We have raised R1,850 of the targeted R6,000 and your help reaching our goal will be AMAZING!

Thank you for all your support- groceries, clothing, linen, finances- every gift is appreciated!

With love and greetings,

Loressa
