Developments at iKhaya 3

iKhaya 3 is up and running and 3 of our older children have moved in with the family. They have begun to settle in well and are thoroughly enjoying the sense of family. In addition to this we have completed renovatons to the iKhaya 2 building. The whole home has been retiled and painted. Thank you to those involved with the renovations and have been a great help over this time.

Good News from the Department of Social Development

We have a very eventful month and have just received very good news from our Department of Social Development. They will fund a  full-time social worker at iKhaya LikaBaba. This is INCREDIBLE news for our children and iKhaya as a whole and will enable group and individual therapy as well as offering counselling for family members , training and will get our ECD (Early Childhood Development Centre) up and running. This is a significant landmark in the history of iKhaya and we are trusting to have our new Social Worker on our Team in the new year.

Passing the Baton

The end of November brings with it some exciting news for Khaya Likababa. Wendy Oxley will be handing over the baton to Bronwyn Hunt who will be taking over as the new co-ordinator of Khaya LikaBaba. Wendy has felt it is time to take a step back and to spend with her family.
"It has been the most amazing 3 years and I have no doubt in my mind that Bronwyn, along with the Mancom Board will take iKhaya LikaBaba to new heights. Bronwyn is no stranger to the iKhaya community as she and her husband Neil have served on the Board since 2009 and live on the same property. Bronwyn is a registered nurse and has been involved with iKhaya LikaBaba since its inception. Bronwyn interacts with the children, staff and volunteers a few times a week, and has been incredibly faithful, consistent and involved not only day-to-day life at iKhaya, but also in the envisoning of and planning for iKhaya"

Maintenance Continues on iKhaya 2

Day 6 of tiling and painting iKhaya 2 and it is going quickly. Our big boys' beds moved to the 'dining room' and good fun was had by all! Needless to say no 'big boy' slept this afternoon so they will be exhausted tonight. (here's hoping!)
Tomorrow is the big girls' turn to have their beds in the dining room... fun and games! Kitchen in playroom, washing dishes in meds room, microwave oven in dining room, washing done at iKhaya 3 house, cooking at the Hunts' home and playing all over.... roll on Friday. These guys are grafting! Well done volunteers and staff - incredible team - keep going!Nearly there and looking FABULOUS!
