Hi-ho, hi-ho it's off to school we go!
We have 14 children attending BIG school in town and 6 in our internal pre-school for ages 3 to 5 year olds. Look how proud and happy they were to be so neatly kitted out, ready for success!
Airproducts for the Waltons Back 2 School packages, Konecranes for your generous financial donation and to all those who donated towards our kids school needs, we say THANK YOU! Every donation of secondhand uniforms, finances, stationery items, lunch and school bags was very much appreciated! We were so truly blessed that this year we were able to share our blessings with a few more children in our community who were without.
Know that you too were a part of a bigger picture… meeting a greater need than iKhaya alone. You are all AWESOME!
A Joyful Noise
Music can have such a positive impact on a person's mindset and well-being and may even relieve stress, anxiety, and depression. At iKhaya we are growing in this area as we are slowly introducing musical instruments/ lessons and singing as a planned activity. If you would like to teach our kids to play or sing we would LOVE to hear from you.
Activities that stimulate vision, hearing, touch and movement, all help toddlers make sense of their world and move towards it. It is important to spend time watching what they are doing and what they take an interest in, and then repeating it, providing more of the same. It is in daily interactions with a loving, consistent caregiver that children receive the most valuable input. Spending time with our children, watching them, and to have fun together, is the key to stimulating their development. Our mornings at iKhaya are filled with many activities, both planned and spontaneous as well as in- and outdoors. Activities are varied to stimulate and develop fine and gross motor skills, language and speech, healthy social interactions and accepable behaviour, discipline and structure, as well as growing their imagination and problem solving skills. Babies and toddlers learn best through play, loving interactions and through the examples we model to them daily.
Dance to the beat of your dreams...
There’s just something about dancing! It’s a universal language, and it makes people feel good. There’s a reason so many people find a connection to dance. It’s musical. It’s physical, and it’s spiritual. And more! Our kids began expressing their love for dance through lessons with Kim at Dance Academy a few years ago. Today they continue doing their own little shows and practice sessions at home. Dancing is so good for them plus it is a great team builder as they choreograph and practice their group work!
Thank you Mkhulu (Len Helfrich) for treating the school children to this fantastic adventure! What a treat to sail on the yatch, Sea Fever, you personally hand crafted! You are super talented and we are blessed to have you in our daily lives!
Gigles, smiles and chatter!
We focus on loads of activities that arouse the sense of sight, sound, touch, taste and smell of our little ones. Infant stimulation can help improve attention span, memory, curiosity, and nervous system development. This all enables babies to reach developmental milestones faster and aids in the development of motor skills. At iKhaya our volunteers spend this quality time with the babies each morning which also builds relationships and social skills. We enjoy their smiles, giggles and chatter as they develop and enjoy our interactions too.
Dear Friends, I would like to end off with these words, “I believe God sent you into my life to give me something to fight for; to show me there is love in this world; to bring me hope and to bring me joy”. These words reflect the nature and call of my heart, as I know I am called to be where I am right now, doing what I do each day, loving and pouring out into the lives I touch and change! By His might and by His power alone am I able to fulfill this calling and mission to reach into the lives and hearts of the children of iKhaya. He gives the HOPE and JOY that outweighs the hurting and challenges we sometimes face. He is our Heavenly Father and He is the Father to the fatherless.
With love and greetings,
Loressa, Staff and Kids iKhaya
