iKhaya Newsletter – June 2017

Psalm 127: 3-5 "Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one's youth. Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them!“

Sea, Sand, Sun and Fun!

A team of visiting volunteers from Redemption City in Denver, Colorado together with Solid Ground Church members and leaders made a trip to the beach with our kiddies. Besides it being winter they enjoyed the chilly water the most! Times like these, where our kids are given the opportunity to connect with people who care, are great as the kids absolutely crave attention and love! The spoils of lunch, drinks and icecreams were just the cherry on top!

The USA volunteers also cleared away an overgrown and delapidated vegetable garden, spent time playing outdoors with the children at home and just connected with them on a personal level during their 2 weeks with us.

Your generous hearts and love for our Father are evident and we appreciate all you invested in our lives through time, hard labour, quality time and gifts. Thanks to you all.

Father's Day

Empangeni Christian School celebrated Father’s Day by allowing learners to wear ties to school for a day. Boys and girls wore them with pride. We have 8 children in grades R to 5 at this most amazing school. They always go the extra mile and take care of needs beyond education. We are truly blessed to be a part of this school family.

First Family; Now Forever Friends

We had the awesome priviledge of nurturing, loving, teaching and growing baby Nokubonga (now Zoey) for about 10 months before we bade her farewell as she was placed with foster parents for adoption. We are over joyed that they recognise her bond with us, caregivers and siblings, as her first family and they have chosen to remain in contact with us. A picnic and fun times at Felixton Village was one such occassion. Zoey has immeasurable love for her mommy and daddy but she has not forgotten her first home and loves to play with her friends.

Gentlemen’s Tea

We have our very own preschool at iKhaya for our grade RR and RRR kids (ages 3 and 4 year olds). It was launched a year ago with Bronwyn Mathias as the teacher. She is full of wonderful ideas and the children love schooling with her! This month the boys held a gentlemen’s tea and invited guests were treated to lovely singing and dancing and yummy treats with tea. Thanks Bronwyn for the great morning and well done on all the effort you put into making the school a great success.

Heavy Hearts

Jenny and Sarah have been with us since September 2016. It feels like just a couple of months though as their time with us has simply flown by. They have been a a huge help to me, my staff and have connected with the children on all levels. They have knitted into the community with ease and built some life long friendships. To say they have been a blessing to us is an understatement! They leave us on Wednesday, 19 July to return home to Germany and will be sorely missed as they leave a tremendous void behind them. We already feel emtions whelling up as we simply think of the day they are to leave us. You have both been treasures and our lives are richer for having shared these month with you. We love you both dearly and pray that God continues to use you for bigger and greater things in His kingdom as you seek Him more and more. Until we meet again, farewell from us all.

Doing Life...

Our days are filled with activites, outings and visitors treating us too. Kids love, love to have faces painted and dress uop time is a favourite too! Here are some moments captured over the last month. I’m sure you will agree that we have happy kids in a stunning environment. Thanks to everyone who plays a part in making their lives full and their needs met. We love the heart in which our community reaches out to love and support us and our kids.
